The Development Path

The Willspace Teacher Apprenticeship is designed as a progression.

Apprentices do not begin as finished teachers. They begin by learning how a serious training environment operates, how clients are cared for, how sessions are prepared, and how physical knowledge becomes useful to another person.

As responsibility increases, compensation increases. Advancement is based on demonstrated ability, reliability, judgment, client care and contribution to the studio — not simply time served.

1. Teacher Apprenticeship

This is the entry point into the program.

At this stage, residents are learning the standards, rhythm and expectations of Willspace. They observe experienced teachers, participate in staff practice, assist with selected sessions, help maintain the training environment and begin learning how sessions are prepared.

The focus is on developing the habits required of a serious teacher: attention, humility, reliability, preparation, communication and the ability to receive feedback.

Residents are not expected to arrive as finished professionals. They are expected to arrive ready to learn.

2. Assistant Teacher

Assistant Teachers begin taking more active responsibility inside the training process.

They may lead portions of sessions, assist in semi-private or group practice, teach foundational movements and work with selected clients under supervision.

At this stage, the focus shifts from observation to application. Assistant Teachers begin learning how to present ideas clearly, choose appropriate challenges, respond to the person in front of them and develop professional judgment.

3. Associate Teacher

Associate Teachers begin managing clients with greater independence.

They are expected to deliver strong sessions, communicate clearly, prepare appropriately, follow up professionally and demonstrate the ability to earn client trust.

At this stage, the teacher is no longer simply learning the environment. They are beginning to carry real responsibility for the client experience.

Associate Teachers continue to receive mentorship and correction, but they are expected to show increasing ownership, consistency and judgment.

4. Willspace Teacher

A Willspace Teacher can independently deliver the Willspace experience.

This means they can manage an ongoing client book, program across longer periods, produce meaningful client progress, retain clients, communicate professionally and represent the studio without constant supervision.

A Willspace Teacher is not only capable of leading a good session. They understand how to build trust, maintain standards, adapt to different clients and contribute to the larger culture of the studio.

5. Senior Teacher

Senior Teachers demonstrate advanced judgment, leadership and contribution.

They may mentor Apprentices, support staff education, contribute to curriculum, help with hiring and onboarding, develop specialty areas and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of Willspace.

This stage is not based only on experience or longevity. It is earned through client results, professional maturity, teaching ability and contribution to the development of others.

Compensation and Growth

This is a W-2 employment position.

The Teacher Apprenticeship begins at $25-$30 per hour for paid Willspace working hours, depending on experience, background, availability and demonstrated readiness.

This is an entry-level development role, not a senior trainer position. Residents are paid for their work at Willspace while they develop the skill, judgment and professionalism required to teach clients independently.

As residents progress, they may earn higher rates for client-facing teaching hours. Compensation increases as they demonstrate reliability, teaching ability, client responsibility, professional judgment and contribution to the studio.

The long-term path is designed to support growth from Teacher Apprenticeship to Assistant Teacher, Associate Teacher, Willspace Teacher and Senior Teacher.

Willspace is looking for people who understand that mastery is developed over time. We do not expect residents to arrive as finished professionals, and entry-level compensation reflects the stage of development.

Apprentices receive paid work, direct mentorship, real client exposure, regular feedback and a structured path toward greater responsibility. They learn inside an active studio, with real clients, real standards and real expectations.

The goal is not to leave Apprentices alone to figure out how to become teachers. The goal is to give them a serious environment in which to study, practice, assist, teach, receive feedback and grow.
